1. PronounciationWe know everyone is not Italian so... imagine someone's Noni speaking in broken English. She is going to Cape Cod, however she says "Kay Pa -cod". This is how to pronounce che pecat' ... capisce? 2. OriginChe Pecat' was born after a conversation between my family while we were visiting in Italy. My uncle was discussing how when he came to visit the United States, he went to Cape Cod. This in itself was not that interesting, but the way he pronounced it was Kay Pa-Cod. This is how you pronounce Che Pecat' and so began 2 weeks worth of Cape Cod and Che Pecat' jokes. With the meaning of Che Pecat' being "what a pity" or "too bad" almost every conversation had some reference to Cape Cod ( or Che Pecat' if you prefer). After returning from our trip, we spent the weekend at The Cape with friends. We shared our photos, our stories and my grandmother's olive oil. With my best italian accent, I spoke of the beautiful Che Pecat' and how we enjoy spending summer weekends here as much as our trips to Italy. My husband and I had decided these were our two most favorite places. And so... My love of Italy and Cape Cod inspired me to blend the two together and Che Pecat™ was formed. |
